ice day. 29/365

We started the day early when our security system decided to sound the alarm for no specific reason. Perhaps it was objecting to the cold. Maybe it was tired of us threatening to sleep in.  Regardless of the reason, the siren went off and I’m pretty sure we all levitated out of our beds. Let me tell you, if you ever need to transition from REM to complete consciousness in a few milliseconds, unexpected security system alarm is the way to go.

…. …. …. …. ….

Schools were out today due to the impending icepocolypse. Check our the graphic from our local weather station.

Fingers crossed that it doesn’t drop to 28 degrees or things are gonna be CATASTROPHIC. Oh, wait… WAIT! It’s only 26 degrees! Batten down the hatches folks, it’s not just treacherous anymore!!!

Dear weather guy, please calm down.

Though nowhere near the doomsday scenario of the weather dude, the area is pretty much blanketed in a giant sheet of sleet. We’ve been listening to ice bounce off of our windows since this morning and it shows no sign of letting up soon. I never thought I would say such a thing, but I sure hope that Monster Jam doesn’t get canceled. Bex would cry. For serious.

…. …. …. …. ….

I felt like we’d had a full day by the time it was 1030 in the a.m. We’d watched a DVD, checked out some you tube videos, played the saxophone, beaten on the drum,  driven some cars, tried a little coloring, and staged a massive grand prix race series involving all manner of matchbox mobiles and it was only 9am. Drastic measures had to be taken, so mama broke out the cake mix, the dude donned his apron, and the cupcake CATASTROPHE! extravaganza began.

He really is a good helper.

Say what you will, but quality control is important.

Ready for icing.

Working on the decorations.

More quality control.

C’est fini!

…. …. …. …. ….

Enjoying the ice on a makeshift sled. Yes it is a rubbermaid lid. It was handy & effective.

Did Monster Jam get canceled? I wish I’d known about Monster Jam – that would be right up Lukas’ alley.

We use boogie boards from the beach to sled with! They have long handles that we can use to pull the kids down the hill on! They’re great!
